Microscopy course

Microscopy course mucormycetes: from the microscope to the patient

This year, the traditional microscopy course focuses on the exciting group of Mucorales. This group of fungi harbours mucormycosis causing pathogens and is characterized by its great diversity, extremely rapid growth and metabolic flexibility. The aim of the course is to provide an introduction to the clinically relevant genera with its characteristic macro- and micro-features, whereby rare species will be examined also. The vast part of this course will be hands on the microscope. Through active participation and with the guidance of experienced professionals, participants will have the chance to learn about the most important morphological characteristics of Mucorales. Participants will perform microscopy under the supervision of experienced experts in the field of medical mycology to get immediate feedback, tips and inserts. Furthermore, participants will get a detailed overview of diagnostic procedures as well as clinical characteristics and clinical management of mucormycosis.
